Autoscaling
Traditional brick-and-mortar processors, as well as those using standard cloud implementations, need to maintain a full-time infrastructure that can handle predicted peak transaction loads. This infrastructure may therefore be significantly over capacity for most day-to-day processing needs. If they do not maintain such capacity, they risk failing to meet peak demand.
The CLOWD9 platform uses cloud technologies to autoscale on demand ensuring an optimized resource usage strategy. As a result:
- There is no danger of incorrectly predicting future peak demand and consequently undersizing the infrastructure and failing to service the peak.
- The correct allocation of infrastructure resource is always available. There is no expensive or inefficient overcapacity during business as usual periods.
- There is no manual effort associated with allocating or deallocating additional resource as demand varies.
Employing Infrastructure as Code via Terraform scripts, and thanks to the size (approximately 8 megabytes) of images to be deployed, the addition of processing resources to increase the transaction processing capacity of the CLOWD9 platform happens in seconds.
CLOWD9 uses Grafana as the monitoring tool for the system’s processing bandwidth, enabling the system to scale up preventively as transaction load builds, support processing spikes, and return system capacity as the load returns to normal levels.
The flexibility allows for optimal resource usage as well as supporting CLOWD9's ESG goals.
