How Limits are Enforced
Aurora checks and updates limits automatically each time a qualifying transaction event occurs.
You do not need to take any action the platform handles enforcement in real time.
When a Transaction Is Authorised
At the point of authorisation, Aurora evaluates the transaction against every active limit for that card. If all limits are satisfied the transaction is approved and the following happens:
• Any relevant Count Limit is incremented by 1. • Any relevant Value Limit is increased by the transaction amount plus any applicable fees.
What happens if a limit is breached ?
If a transaction would take a cardholder over a limit threshold, the authorisation is declined.
The cards running Limit Count and Limit Value totals are not updated for a declined transaction.
When an Authorisation Is Released
An authorisation can be released for several reasons: it may be matched to a clearing record, released manually, or expired automatically. When this happens:
• Any relevant Value Limit(s) is decreased by the original authorisation amount plus any fees that were assessed. • Any relevant Count Limit(s) is not reduced and the transaction still counts towards the period total.
When a Clearing Transaction Arrives
A clearing transaction is the final settlement of a purchase. When clearing arrives:
• Any relevant Value Limit(s) is incremented by the cleared amount plus any applicable fees. • Any relevant Count Limit(s) is not changed again at clearing as it was already incremented at authorisation.
Because Value Limits are incremented at both authorisation and clearing, the authorisation hold is released first (reducing the value) and the clearing amount is then added. This ensures the cardholder's running total always reflects the true settled position.
